أعلن المركز الوطني لتنمية الغطاء النباتي ومكافحة التصحر عن حصر أكثر من 550 موقعًا للأشجار المعمّرة في مختلف مناطق المملكة، وذلك ضمن جهوده لحماية هذه الثروة الطبيعية الفريدة، والمحافظة عليها، بوصفها جزءًا من الهوية الوطنية والتراث الطبيعي.
وأوضح المركز أن الأشجار المعمّرة تُعد رمزًا للحياة والعطاء المستمر؛ إذ تتميز بقدرتها على الصمود لمئات السنين أمام الظروف المناخية القاسية، وتمثل شاهدًا حيًّا على العلاقة العميقة بين الأرض والإنسان، وحمايتها لا تقتصر على كونها عملاً بيئيًّا فحسب، بل هي استثمار طويل الأمد في البيئة والصحة العامة والهوية الوطنية.

وأشار المركز إلى أن الأثر المتوقع من حماية الأشجار المعمّرة يتجاوز البعد البيئي، ليشمل أبعادًا اجتماعية وثقافية واقتصادية؛ إذ يسهم في المحافظة على التراث الطبيعي والتاريخي، ورفع الوعي البيئي، وتعزيز السياحة البيئية، فضلًا عن دعم الاقتصاد المحلي وخفض التكاليف الناتجة عن التصحر والتدهور البيئي.
يُذكر أن المركز يعمل على تنمية مواقع الغطاء النباتي وحمايتها والرقابة عليها وتأهيل المتدهور منها حول المملكة، والكشف عن التعديات عليه، ومكافحة الاحتطاب، إضافة إلى الإشراف على أراضي المراعي والغابات والمتنزهات الوطنية واستثمارها، مما يعزز التنمية المستدامة، ويسهم في تحقيق مستهدفات مبادرة السعودية الخضراء.

SPA NCVC Catalogs More Than 550 Perennial-Tree Sites Center Headline

NCVC announced that it has cataloged more than 550 sites of perennial trees across Saudi Arabia as part of its efforts to safeguard this unique natural asset and preserve it as a component of national identity and natural heritage.

NCVC noted that perennial trees are symbols of life and enduring resilience, capable of withstanding harsh climatic conditions for centuries and stand as living testimony to the deep bond between people and land. Their protection is not only an environmental duty; it is also a long-term investment in the environment, public health, and national identity.

This step forms part of NCVC’s plan to register perشennial trees on a digital platform accessible to researchers and visitors, as a prelude to submitting them for inscription on UNESCO’s World Heritage List, enforcing Saudi Arabia’s environmental and cultural standing globally.

NCVC added that the expected impact of protecting perennial trees extends beyond the environmental dimension to social, cultural, and economic benefits: conserving natural and historical heritage, raising environmental awareness, promoting eco-tourism, supporting local economies, and reducing costs associated with desertification and land degradation.

NCVC works to develop, protect, and monitor vegetation-cover sites across the country; rehabilitate degraded areas; detect violations; combat illegal woodcutting; and oversee the sustainable use of rangelands, forests, and national parks, thereby advancing sustainable development and contributing to the objectives of the Saudi Green Initiative.
